My Final Festive Five!

I can’t believe that this is the final Five on Friday of the year!

It has been such a pleasure to visit you all most Fridays and thank you for all your great comments.

You are all very lovely indeed!

So to my final five –

One

image

I love this little Christmas tree in our kitchen window.

The theme in here is far more traditional than in our living room.

I think this little tree is a sweet addition and it makes me smile when I switch the little lights on.

Two

image

One of my favourite decorations has to be this super cute line with Father Christmas’s clothes on it.

We actually have a much bigger version hanging on the wall outside, but alas, I have not been home in daylight to photograph it since.

I really love this dinky version though.

Threeimage

The youngest has a little white tree in her room too.

She is delighted with it.

Four

image

I have been feeding my Christmas cake but have not had time to decorate it yet.

Since the girls were little, I have been putting this oral syringe to good use.

I obviously washed it out throughly afterwards to make sure the girls didn’t get given Brandy by accident ha!

It really works very well indeed and ensures that the cake is very well fed, well it is Christmas!

Five

imageA new radio has been purchased for the kitchen.

It is a gorgeous Emma Bridgewater design.

Radio 4 has been preset to help me through the many hours I will spend in here over the coming weeks.

Finally, a quick update from other Fives – It seems that the Chapel has not, and will not, be handed over to the residents this year!

And, the youngest has had her hair cut, she is giving it as a Christmas gift to The Little Princess Trust, you can read about it here.

It is my work Christmas ‘do’ tonight, so  I will pop and visit you over the weekend.

Thank you Amy for hosting today and all year, you are a blogging star xxx

All that is left for me to do is to wish you all a very Merry and Peaceful Christmas!

Lots of love Lisa xxx

My Festive Five!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Preparations are progressing at a manageable pace here on The Glade.

Himself seems to be surviving the madness that is his work. I’m trying to fight the evil bugs with nutrition.

We have the tree up and here are another five things that I am delighted to have ticked off my ‘to do’ list.

One

image

The kitchen is ready to welcome visitors.

I picked this sign up earlier this week, I keep popping into the kitchen to take a peek.

Two

image

There are candles everywhere and I mean everywhere.

I love the icy smelling ones and I think candle light gives a lovely glow to the house at Christmas.

Three

image

All the pictures have been replaced with ones of the girls with the big man.

It is a lovely way of seeing these precious pictures again.

I’m so glad that we always made a huge effort to go and see Father Christmas, we have some lovely pictures of the girls with him over the years.

Also making some great memories in the process.

Four

image

The kitchen chairs are dressed for the season. Who knew that chairs needed hats? ha!

Actually, I am delighted with these covers, they are just so cute.

Five

image

Now I am taking a risk here with all you talented ladies, but I have had a go at being creative.

I actually attached the baubles and bow to this wreath myself.

The youngest’s verdict “it doesn’t look too shabby” and that, is high praise indeed.

I am planning to decorate my Christmas cake this weekend, finish my wrapping and plan my menus.

How are your preparations coming along?

Have a lovely Day!

Five on Friday!

It has been a funny week here in The Glade.

We seem to have been even busier than normal and I am still trying to catch up from my time away at the end of last month.

Couple that with having the kitchen decorated and as a consequence the whole house is a tip, well lets just say, I need the weekend!

Once more I am joining with Amy for Five on Friday!

Here are my five happy things from this week –

One

image

The Weeping Window poppies that were at the Tower of London last year have come to Liverpool.

I took this picture on Saturday evening. It was so very moving.

The lovely Karen at Crimson Kettle wrote about poppies last week for her Five on Friday, it was lovely! This picture is for you Karen x

Two

image

The Liverpool Pals are very closely associated with the association where I work.

The statue of The Unknown Soldier is looked after by the association and is located just outside.

My lovely colleague Tom organised the most beautiful service to commemorate Armistice Day on Wednesday.

It was very moving and exceptionally well attended.

Everyone who took part was delighted with Tom’s efforts, he did the Pals proud.

On Tuesday, myself and the rest of my colleagues went to a beautiful venue in the city next to the marina, for a food tasting session.

The chef was bidding to cater for an event that is planned for next year and invited us all along.

Instead of giving us little samples, he cooked the most beautiful three course lunch, it was epic and such an unexpected treat!

The picture is of the dessert, Oh My Chocolate Tart!

It was gorgeous!

I did actually do some work this week ha!

Four – A Chapel update!

image

Having lamented about the lack of progress on our Chapel in a recent post, it seems that work has begun.

A safety fence was erected around it while I was in San Francisco and workmen have been spotted in the vicinity this week.

Furthermore, Bovis Homes have sent an email pledging to hand it over to the residents by the 9th December 2015.

We are a little sceptical about this because all our houses were late.

However, this is huge progress, they have been silent on the matter for so long.

They have refused a meeting with the residents to discuss the details, nevertheless it’s exciting to see anything happening over there.

I will keep you in the loop!

Five

It is Children In Need day today here in England.

I took a cake to work to raffle yesterday and was overwhelmed by the generosity of most of my colleagues.

I was hoping to bake more cakes for a cake sale, however the kitchen still resembles a building site, so will have to postpone it until Monday.

That’s my five for this week.

I have plans to sort the kitchen this weekend and, Gabriella is promising to pop home on Sunday!

Thank you Amy for hosting.

Have a lovely weekend!

Five on Friday!

Hello my lovelies, I seem to have stumbled into Friday!

I missed last week because I was away for work in San Francisco.

I’ve no idea if it’s a great city or not because I barely stepped foot outside the hotel, it was pretty full on.

I have been fighting severe jet lag ever since, especially given that we got caught up in the fog delays at Heathrow airport.

Here are my Five on Friday in no particular order.

One

image

I did get to cross the Golden Gate Bridge on the only chilly, foggy day of my entire stay.

It was a beautiful sight as the fog descended before our very eyes.

There were some spectaculars photographs taken but obviously not by me ha! I was too cold cold to get my phone out again!

Two

image

On a spectacularly beautiful day, I got to the door of the Ferry Building to be called back to the hotel by my boss.

This picture is totally unfiltered, the sky was that beautiful shade for most of my visit.

I never did make it inside and for a bit of a foodie like me, I am afraid that it might end up being one of the biggest regrets of my life that I never got to see it.

Or maybe not, because we have just heard that the eldest may be going out that way to work next summer.

So maybe I will get to walk aimlessly around the ferry building one day!!

Three

image

I also didn’t get to ride the tram or trolley car.

But I did see them and they all looked fab.

There seemed to plenty of modes of transport in San Fran!

Four

image

The eldest requested that I purchased some make up for her and that was literally all I had time to run and buy.

This is the holiday edition packaging, isn’t it beautiful?

Five

image

Comfort food has definitely been needed since my return.

Himself has obliged and looked the Minestrone Soup Eastham style up on the blog yesterday.

He made it for a quick bonfire night dinner.

It was delicious and he was delighted with the results.

It really is so quick and easy, something magical happens to the ingredients when they are in the slow cooker.  It was perfect for bonfire night.

That’s my five for this week. We are planning a quiet weekend with plenty of down time after school mass on Saturday.

What have you been up to?

image

Thank you Amy for hosting!

Have a lovely weekend y’all x x x

Gabriella’s Five on Friday!

It’s been another ridiculously busy week this week, I’m glad to welcome both the weekend and half term.

Given that her sister shared her Five On Friday when it was her birthday, the eldest has insisted that she do the same ha!

Happy 20th Birthday Gabriella – not a teenager anymore. We are all looking forward to seeing you later twinkle x x x

So here are Gabriella’s Five On Friday;

One

image

I discovered a new favourite drink this week, Mango Daiquiri. Mum this is surely a healthy drink incorporating one of my five a day. It’s delicious!

Two

image

I’m at uni in Manchester and this week I discovered a new cake shop.

Ice Stone Gelato is on Oxford Road and after a long day in Uni, myself and some friends on my course found ourselves in there.

I had a peanut butter creation, it was gorgeous. I’m looking forward to taking my family there, they would love it.

Three

image

The temperature has dropped in Manchester this week.

We were so cold one evening that my housemate Ivy made this fabulous hot chocolate.

Four

image

My friends on my course gave me this beautiful Pandora ring for my birthday. It’s so pretty and I am delighted.

I can’t wait to see what the parentals have treated me to, Mum has been going on about it for weeks.

Five

image

My friends.

This picture is of some if my friends on my course. I have lovely housemates too and regularly see/go out with my housemates from last year.

I appreciate how very lucky I am that I have such great friends in Manchester. They make all the difference.

This evening I am popping over to Liverpool for an early dinner with the fam.

Then I’m straight back on the train to Manchester for a celebratory night out, to say goodbye to my teens in style.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Thank you Amy for hosting.

Have a lovely weekend!!

Five on Friday!

Its been a funny week here on The Glade and, I for one,  am so ready for the weekend.

My Five on Friday seem to  mostly reflect my need for comfort this week.

It is definitely chiller and darker around here now.

Here are five things that have irked and pleased me in equal measures this week.

One

image

The leaves have started to fall off the trees around the Chapel this week.

It looks so autumn and pretty.

For those of you who don’t know, the Chapel is opposite our house and is supposed to be our community centre.

However, we have lived in the house for 16 months now and not a tap of work has been done on it by the builders.

It remains boarded up and deemed unsafe.

This is very disappointing because the Chapel was a part of the deal when we bought our houses..

We were all sold the idea that the residents on this development would have exclusive use of the Chapel.

Alas, we remain locked out – it really is a poor show by the builders.

Two

image

The spiders have been busy all over The Glade this week.

These spectacular webs have appeared all over the place, don’t you think it looks very Halloween like?

Three

image

We have had slow cooker dinners almost every night this week.

It is such a great way to cook, throw everything in and come home to a lovely hot dinner.

I do tons of things in my slow cooker from lasagna to crumbles to mulled wine.

In fact, although I already have two, I invested in another this week. I am sure I will get lots of use out of all three.

The recipe for the sausage casserole that is cooking in the picture came from Lucy BakingQueen74‘s blog.

Honestly, if you are looking for inspiration, pop over to visit her, she is fab!

Four

image

I have been burning this candle all week.

It is gorgeous and does smell very summery. It is as good as my usual expensive brand.

However, this little beauty only cost £1.49 – an absolute bargain!

Five

image

When we were taking Jack for a run yesterday, we were rewarded by this magnificent sunset.

Isn’t it a beauty?

Thank you to Amy & Stevie for hosting xx

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Five on Friday

It’s been a funny week, I can’t believe it’s Friday but we are ready for the weekend.

I feel like I have not done a Five On Friday for ages.

Here are this week’s offerings;

One

image

We have been enjoying the fabulous late summer weather.

We had the huge moon at the beginning of the week and glorious sunrises and sunsets.

The River Mersey has been looking magnificent too.

This picture is of the tide being in on one side and out on the opposite.

I love living so near to the river and watching the changing seascape .

Two

image

I have been sorting through some of my pictures from Dubai.

There is a post in the pipeline but here is a sneaky peak at the stunning marina where we were lucky enough to stay.

Three

image

Himself and I have spent some time this week in the car park of this church.

It is the church opposite the youngest’s school.

She has a speaking part in the school production.

As the performance date is drawing nearer, she has a heavy rehearsal schedule.

The school is a good 25 minutes drive from our house, hence the busy week.

Three

image

Well despite my protests it seems that you can’t stop nature.

The Glade is definitely looking more and more autumnal as each day passes.

I did think I would have to start preparing my garden for what comes after autumn, I find it easier not to say the W word ha!,

However, it seems to have sprung back into life this week. The geraniums, fuchsias and hydrangea are all going strong.

Five

image

It’s October, the eldest’s birthday month.

. I  am struggle to believe that she is almost done with her teenage years.

Her present is safety stowed in my special hiding place.

I am wondering whether we will even see her on the day, nevertheless I will be celebrating my 20th year of mothering ha!

That is it for this week, I will pop over and comment after work x

Have a lovely day!
